Qwirkle Cubes, MindWare, $24.95; www.mindware.com; ages 6 and up.
Cubes is an extension of Qwirkle, but with a bit more chance. It plays almost like six-sided dominoes. Roll them to form your hand and play them in “lines:” matching either color or shape. Re-roll additional cubes and score points as you play. Qwirkle requires you to think about strategy just enough without making it tough. Shapes and colors are fun and easy to match, and looking for places to play your cubes adds just enough challenge to keep it interesting. When the cubes are exhausted, tally points to determine the winner.
