Technology and e-readers are the wave of the future, and now the trend toward electronic gadgets has trickled down to children’s toy shelves. This toy e-reader reads and animates stories to entertain and teach children. The 2x4-inch, color touch screen provides outstanding picture quality with clear animation; the words in the story are highlighted on screen as they are read aloud to help children read along. The V.Reader includes one book cartridge but more stories are available to download from vtechkids.com; additional book cartridges are sold separately. The V.Reader also includes an interactive game that heightens literacy-based learning opportunities using words from the chosen story. Below the touch screen is a smooth keypad to help children play the game and set up their V.Reader. A hinged clear plastic cover protects the screen and prevents excess button-pushing when not in use. The unit evencomes with a stylus that can be stored within the unit. The V.Reader is both Mac and PC compatible; PC downloads are available now, Mac downloads are coming soon.
